Charitable Status

The Ironbridge Railway Trust gained charitable status in 2009, being formed for the purpose of promoting a sustainable transport link into the World Heritage site at Ironbridge by advocating the re-instatement of the old standard gauge Great Western Railway line between Buildwas and Ironbridge. It is anticipated that the line would be reconstructed in a traditional railway style of architecture and operated with a mixture of both heritage and modern railway rolling stock.

The Trust’s proposals for the redevelopment of the Power Station identifies the potential for mixed use and part-funding of the project by including: Residential housing; a Research and Development Technology Park; a Retail Village; Hotel facilities; Leisure activities; together with a Park & Ride rail link to the Ironbridge World Heritage site.
