Heritage Equipment Retrievals Team

Since its inception, IRT has begun to collect heritage railway items and equipment. It has dismantled several redundant signal boxes and retrieved the frames and other signalling equipment. However, railway equipment is often heavy and often over-engineered (it can take several people to lift and carry it), and the team are not getting any younger! Network Rail have been disposing of redundant equipment for many years and recognise its importance to the Heritage Movement which is supported by the Heritage Railway Association.

We wish to attract new volunteers of all ages, to establish a dedicated Heritage Equipment Retrievals Team. Health and Safety is of paramount importance to the project and is treated with respect to ensure the safety of volunteers and compliance with Health and Safety legislation. Our team members will mentor new members to develop the skills required to retrieve, store, service and hopefully install safely, items that are needed for the project to succeed.
